Parents Visiting, Passover Starting

My folks are visiting at a convenient time, which is great. With just one week of school left, I'm all finished with work for one class and have just a couple of assignments for the other two, one of which is a take-home final.

Passover doesn't officially start until Sunday, April 24, but Emerson Hillel hosted a pre-Passover seder and dinner last night at Emerson's Student Union. It was a good turnout, though a few less people came than most of the Hillel officers expected. Our president, Rose Azrael, worked with a woman named Leah, who is in rabbinical school, to do a good job of organizing the seder and dinner. I helped set up tables and cleaned up, and I was rewarded with a bunch of leftover food and some grape juice.

And now the big news of late, for me: I got the for-credit internship with The Jewish Advocate, so I'll be working there this summer for at least 12 weeks. I'll be corresponding with my Emerson advisor, Jerry Lanson, and have a few things to turn in for him about how the internship is going, what I'm having to overcome, and more. I'm excited about this opportunity and think it will be great for my resume, gathering clips and my journalism experience.

My uncle Andy's doing better, I hear. My dad will be visiting him in Denver, Colorado, shortly after he and my mom come here, tomorrow (Friday) through Sunday. The weekend plans? We'll probably get together with my mom's cousin, who is supposed to be visiting, as well as other relatives around here. I've also suggested going to the Museum of Fine Arts, where there's a cool sports car exhibit, and visiting some areas around the West End, the neighborhood I was reporting on this weekend. Also, the Boston Celtics will be playing their first NBA playoff game of the year this Saturday night, at home against the Indiana Pacers. Who knows, maybe we'll get to check that out if tickets are availabe. The Washington Wizards are also in the playoffs--hooray!--and will open against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday afternoon, in Chicago.

That's the news, and opinion, I'm going to print for now. Have a wonderful day.

Literally Soaking Up the Sun

Okay, that's probably the cheesiest entry title I've had yet, but that Sheryl Crow song has been on my mind lately...I think because I've been doing more running outside lately. I took a (estimated) five-mile run yesterday along the Charles River and was actually keeping a pretty good pace.

Those of us at Emerson have about three weeks left in the semester before final exams. I'm still waiting to hear about a summer internship with The Jewish Advocate, but when we chatted last one of the editors sounded optimistic that I'd get it. We shall see. If I don't get it, I signed up for a class on foreign reporting and would continue to some freelancing and apply to write at other newspapers and magazines. I might even work parttime at some joint that could use my skills at making pesto mayonnaise.

I've been feeling the excitement about baseball season, as the Red Sox are having their home opener tomorrow night against...drum roll...the New York Yankees. I hope to get to watch at least a little bit of that. The Red Sox will be getting their championship rings tomorrow night too.

I want to take a moment to send my best wishes for a speedy recovery to my uncle Andy, who's in the hospital getting radiation and chemotherapy after having a brain tumor removed a few days ago. Get well, Andy. I hope to see you soon.

My best to the rest of you for a great week! Hopefully I'll be updating a little more often. Peace.
